Our quality pine furniture is hand waxed to a mellow antique satin finish and all our prices include VAT. We can match most wood colours to suit existing furniture and can also colour wash or solid paint to customer requirements.
Most items of furniture will be available in 4 to 6 weeks subject to availability unless advised and will be subject to a 30% deposit on order. All our prices include VAT.
If you cannot visit us it only requires a telephone call or an email to arrange purchase of our products using a cheque or credit/debit card payment.
We accept cash, cheques and most credit and debit cards. There is a 2% handling charge on all credit cards only. Debit cards do not attract a handling charge. Cheques require five working days bank clearance before goods will be released.
The prices indicated on this web site are as accurate as possible but we must advise that prices can vary suddenly in some instances and any price you are interested in must be confirmed by contacting our shop direct by e-mail or telephone prior to ordering. We generally have approximately 20% discount at all times throughout the year and our prices include that discount.
OUR PRICING POLICY: We believe that there is no such thing as “FREE DELIVERY” which normally may be included in other company’s marked price and our pricing policy is to calculate our retail price without delivery costs to allow our customers to decide whether or not to uplift their own goods and thus save on delivery costs. Furniture is not easily delivered and our subcontracted carriers must charge for this service. Similarly, some customers pay by cash, cheque or debit card where there are no appreciable bank charges but anybody who pays by credit card requires to pay 2% handling charge which we must pay to their credit card company. If we allowed “free delivery” and “no handling charge” our retail prices would have to rise. We hope our customers understand this policy
National delivery is not included and our own carrier will quote for most local deliveries up to 100 miles including placement in a room. Any deliveries further afield within the UK and Ireland can be sent using other national removers who provide a door to door delivery but will not take furniture up stairs. In the case of deliveries over 100 miles we assist in contacting the removal company, on our customer’s behalf, but are not responsible for any damages or inconvenience on the part of the remover after the introduction. Insurance must be requested and that insurance company will consider any damage claims. Customers can uplift their own goods if required.
International deliveries must be organised by the customer, not by us, and if this requires us to deliver to our local airport or warehouse there will be extra charges. International customers should also check with their local Customs & Excise office in their own country to ask about import duties & taxes that may be liable on furniture before deciding to order. The cost of worldwide shipping by air can be up to 60% of the basic cost of the furniture.
Our prices are in GB pounds – deduct vat (because you will not be liable for UK vat), then convert using the current exchange rate for your currency. This will now be the basic cost of the furniture. Only if you are happy to pay up to 60% on basic cost, can we give you dimensions and weights of any goods you wish to order so that you can advise your shipping agent to enable a quotation to be given. Insurance must always be requested. Pack flat will be cheaper to ship than fully built-up furniture.
Generally there are extra charges for other finishes e.g. + 10% for dark stains and 15% for solid paint. Please ask.
We supply more than 50,000 items of furniture and you can view most examples on our web site or we may e-mail images of an item or items in which you may be interested. We cannot possibly stock every item available but generally have examples of most ranges/finishes. Similarly we cannot show every image on our web site but we have pdf files of the main supplier’s catalogues.
A unique characteristics of our products is the majority of it is real wood that continues to move throughout its life. Our suppliers go to great efforts to select the very best timber for use in our ranges that is properly dried by kilns prior to use but you must remember it is real wood and changes in room temperature may cause it to crack in certain places, most commonly where the wood has been joined; this is not structural but quite normal for real wood products. Direct Sunlight will cause the paint to fade over a period of time.
Our Price Pledge: If you find an identical UK product cheaper elsewhere, we will equal or better the advertised price subject to verification of that price and that we do not sell below our cost price. We reserve the right that this pledge does not apply to liquidated items, end of line items, misprinted prices nor for goods the vendor cannot supply within 8 weeks. Delivery costs must also be compared.
WAXED AND PAINTED FINISHES: Wood lives on in furniture and requires care and understanding. It gently moves with changes of atmosphere and room temperatures. Avoid placing your furniture adjacent to radiators, direct heat or direct sunlight which all promote cracking, movement and fading. Modern central heating can cause multiple movements which will expand and contract the wood at will. Natural knots may also eventually appear as light brown marks on painted furniture. All the above warnings are natural and should not be considered as defects. Wood breathes, moves and is totally natural and this should be expected. Do not use silicon based spray polish but occasionally treat the wood by gently waxing using bee’s wax, like the type we can supply, then buff with a soft cloth. Any irregularities, such as nail holes or splits, particularly in re-claimed timber, or differentiation of colour are part of the natural occurrences in wood and should not be considered as defects.
MATTRESSES: Mattresses are not included with beds but we do sell quality sprung mattresses where a quotation can be given for soft, firm, extra firm or pocket sprung qualities in all sizes.
PROBLEMS WITH UNEVEN FLOORS:. Please note that wardrobes, bases and tables are, in effect, box sections that can twist and which rely on a perfectly level floor to avoid rocking, in the case of tables, and doors not shutting properly in the case of wardrobes and bases. All our tables and wardrobes are constructed on factory jigs and have again been checked on a level steel plate at our premises. If you experience any difficulties as mentioned above you may require to pack up one or more feet to alleviate the problem as it is not a fault in the item of furniture. Please do not telephone us to complain about the furniture until you have tried to alleviate the problem yourself. The application of a spirit level to your floor is in no way conclusive that the floor is level. There is a relationship between the diagonally opposite feet and not just the front or rear feet. It is quite unusual to find a floor that is perfectly level, particularly old or new wooden floors and the edge of professionally laid carpets using smoothedge at skirting level. If the problem cannot be solved personally and it transpires that the item only requires packing there will be a call out charge equal to a delivery charge. We have never found any reason for the stated problems other than slightly uneven floors. If an item is moved elsewhere on a floor the packing may have to be altered to suit the minor variations of the floor level. It really is simple to pack one or more feet, usually using one or two pieces of hardboard.
MAINTENANCE HINTS ON OUR WAXED FURNITURE: The advantages of beautiful waxed solid wood furniture compared to acrylic sealed wood can be retained with just a little extra care and far outweighs any small disadvantage that a waxed surface may bring. The advantage of a satin waxed finish is that the furniture is fed by the wax and allowed to “breathe” making the reproduction look and feel more “antique”. Liquid spills should be mopped up reasonably quickly to avoid penetration into the wood surface. If an acrylic surface is scratched or damaged, it will require a full strip down, re-colouring and refinishing whereas a waxed finish can generally be repaired by simple re-waxing. On a waxed surface NEVER use wet or damp cloths, do not allow rain or fluids to contact the surface, nor use spray polishes nor allow hot cups or plates to touch the surface without a coaster or table mat. A waxed surface only requires a dry duster.
REMOVAL OF WATER AND HEAT MARKS ON A WAXED SURFACE USING OUR WAX: Allow mark to dry thoroughly. Using fine (00) steel wool very lightly, with no pressure, rub the damaged area backwards and forwards always in line with the wood grain and NEVER in a circular motion, taking care not to rub any colour away from the wood. This action will spread the damaged area slightly feathering into the undamaged area. Using a fresh piece of dry fine steel wool, dip into the wax, available from us, and apply to the prepared area, again very lightly, in a backward and forward motion, feathering into the surrounding area once again. Allow wax to dry for about 15 minutes and, using a fairly stiff bristle brush, apply light pressure and brush the newly waxed area parallel with the grain again, finally buffing with a clean dry cloth. This will remove most minor marks and abrasions. Surface scratches and scuffs can be removed simply by polishing firmly with a stiff brush or clean dry cloth. If the mark or damage is more severe, or you are unsuccessful in matching the original colour, it may be necessary to remove the total area of wax on the surface affected, simply by using medium (2) steel wool soaked in white spirit. Allow to dry overnight. Ensuring surface is completely dry, apply a coat of a suitable coloured wood stain to bring back the original colour, and again allow to dry overnight. Do not use a stained varnish. Finally, apply wax using the medium (2) steel wool and polish with a stiff brush and clean dry cloth as before.
If you cannot repair any damage, we can quote for any remedial work necessary to bring your surface back to the original finish.
